Who am I?

My name is Megan Valois. I am an army wife, a mother of two amazing kids (my son Ethan is 4 years old and my daughter Elise is a year old), and I am a teacher at St. Pius X Catholic High School in Ottawa. I hold a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History, with a minor in both French and English, which I completed at Acadia University in beautiful Wolfville, Nova Scotia! I returned to my hometown, Ottawa, to pursue my Bachelor of Education, with teachables in English and History at the Intermediate and Secondary Levels. Since then, I have taken additional qualifications in Religious Education, Special Education (Parts I, II and Specialist), French as a Second Language and am certified to teach in the Primary and Junior divisions also. Through the OCSB "Leadership Journey" series, I have completed courses on "Teaching and Leading in the 21st Century" as well as "Leadership, Parts 1, 2 and 3". My first experience as an Associate Teacher came in 2013, for which I am humbled to have been one of six recipients of a Queen's University Associate Teacher Award. In November 2013, I completed my Google Apps for Education training.
I am very passionate about assessment for learning, the use of technology in the classroom (#edtech) and outdoor learning/free play/risky play. I have had the opportunity to research, present and share learning on a variety of topics within these realms over the past 10 years.
I am proudly active in the area of Educational Technology. It was my privilege to be a member of the Canadian Ed Chat (#cdnedchat) moderating team for several years; these structured 'chats' took place on Twitter and connect like-minded Canadian educators in discussing pertinent topics in education. It's a wonderful professional learning network and I'm grateful to have been invited to help coordinate and moderate these chats! Furthermore, I regularly have the opportunity to present at conferences and speak about the use of educational technology to enhance the classroom learning experience.
I have switched over to using my blog and Twitter exclusively, as opposed to having multiple sections on this site.
Please check out my blog for posts about motherhood and teaching.
Thank you for visiting!
It must be said, views and content are my own and not affiliated with my employer.
